Dr. De la Cruz participated in the 6th Andalusian Stroke Congress, held this time at the Torrecárdenas University Hospital in Almería. The consolidation of a diet rich in red meat, salt and/or sugar, and the genetically predetermined lipoprotein (a) as particular risk factors for atherothrombotic stroke, the consolidation of folic acid and possibly a diet high in polyphenols (salicornia) as protective factors against stroke, the breakdown of barriers and optimization of criteria and techniques for acute-phase stroke treatment, and new pharmacological and combination strategies for stroke prevention marked an scientific program of real advances in the chances of survival with good quality of life for patients with and at risk of stroke.
